TK Johnson is a drummer and singer-songwriter from Richmond, Virginia, whose lifelong passion for music began at just five years old. By the age of twelve, she had already set her sights on a future in music—and never looked back.
Raised on a rich blend of Motown, classic Soul, Funk, R&B, and Gospel from the ’60s through the ’80s, TK developed a deep appreciation for the legends. She drew early inspiration from the genius of Stevie Wonder, the visionary artistry of Prince, the undeniable groove of Patti LaBelle, and all things funk. Behind the drum kit, her biggest influences include Sheila E, James Gadson, Robert “Sput” Searight, and her first drum teacher, Kevin Davis.
After graduating from Berklee College of Music in 2022, TK hit the ground running, joining indie artist Bartees Strange as a touring drummer. Together, they’ve performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, CBS Saturday Morning, major festivals like Newport Folk Festival and AfroPunk, and iconic stages including the O2 Apollo and the Rose Bowl. TK has toured alongside artists such as The National, Boygenius, Dijon, Clairo, and Metric. In summer 2024, she played her first arena and stadium tour with global sensation Karol G. And this past summer into fall, she finished a tour with the Indigo Girls.
TK is also endorsed by Meinl Cymbals, Meinl Stick & Brush, Evans Drumheads, and TAMA Drums. When she’s not on the road, TK can be found digging into new records, dancing through her Instagram drum covers, and spreading joy wherever she plays.
